Season 2 Episode 2 - Asymmetry & Division of Space

Season 2 Episode 2 - Asymmetry & Division of Space

Make sure you have your sketchbook out and be ready to take notes. You might also like to review Season 1 Episode 6, where I introduce you to division of space as my second step in the design process.

We go further now… you have your canvas and now you divvy up your space so you can pour other elements into it. We can pour in checks or stripes or plaid elements, symmetrically or asymmetrically, throw a frame around it, insert some repetitive sequences…. and the list goes on.

At the end of this episode there is an entire segment on the first sample…. called Asymmetry. As you will see, I have done a lot with this one warp. You will learn how to cut out a stripe and easily replace it with something else.

Many of the repetitive sequences I have used are from your second sample Colour and Weave Gamp. These are the sequences:

DL (Dark/Light)
DDLL (2 Dark/2 Light)
DDL
DDDDLLLL
DDDL
DDLLL
DLDDL

If you are doing the weave along you can come up with your own, sequences…. there are so many possibilities it would take forever to go through them all. I am trying to share my thought process with you just to let you know that there is a system at use here…… it just doesn’t happen. I have my riffs and then I play with them.

I then cut off at the front and re-sley at 12 EPI and weave sequences with boucle as weft…..you will be sorry when your warp is done. That is a good thing because it means you’ll be back at the warping board mighty quick.

You will have more PDFs to print off and add to your binder.

Remember to tell us what you think in the forum…. it really does help.

Soon, soon,
Jane
